The Hero with 1000 Faces Book Cover

Digital

Tools: Photoshop

This project started when my friend requested Joseph Campbell's The Hero with a Thousand Faces as a gift and I actually found the book without a dustcover at a Goodwill. Admittedly, I didn't make it through the whole thing, but at one point he mentions the minotaur in the labyrith myth and that planted the seed of the illustration. I wanted to create a hulking, mean-looking minotaur stalking a knight, and putting a wall corner where the minotaur could peek around seemed like a reasonable solution for the book binding.

I mapped out the bleed guides in Photoshop with the intention to print the cover. I only needed one, so I looked to a poster printing company that could manage custom sizes. It printed dark, so in the future I would lighten the image even more, but it now makes an interesting item on my friend's bookshelf.
